The higher the airspeed, the more the operation of the wing flaps gets uncomfortable, due to the increase in operating forces. In addition, reaching the L-position is difficult even at normal approach speed (110 ··· 120 km/h, 60 ··· 65 kts) due to the unfavorable leverage in that position. The spring which pulls the lever sideways into the detent plate, has been dimensioned extra strong in order to ensure that seizing up of the flaps caused by gust loadings is prevented in any likely case.
